Off the Bookshelf: THE KEEPERS: THE BOX AND THE DRAGONFLY, by Ted Sanders

Audiobook

Narrated by Andrew Elden

Horace is a bookish boy who notices things, and when he sees a sign with his own name on it, he gets off the bus to investigate. This launches him into a world of mystery and secrets, ancient struggles, and danger. At first, his fears seem to guide his choices and actions, and he fights to understand, using his intelligence and curiosity and often ignoring very good, wise advice.

But we wouldn't have this fascinating story of friendship and daring and growing and learning if Horace didn't make mistakes and learn some important lessons the hard way.

He meets a girl named Chloe as they both join, almost unwillingly, a group of people involved in an ancient struggle to protect the lives and freedom of ordinary Humans. Horace and Chloe become un-ordinary when they accept gifts that tap into their abilities and bond with their minds and hearts. Horace is given a box that lets him see a day into the future. Years ago Chloe was given a dragonfly that lets her go "thin," to walk through solid objects. They become Keepers, and this book is just the beginning of their adventure, the dangers they face, the pain and fear they endure, the sacrifices they make, and the lessons they learn as they become part of the ongoing war to defend the Human race.
