Melanie and her grandmother, Liza, have bought an allegedly haunted mansion to turn it into a bed & breakfast. Renovations screech to a halt when removing wallpaper reveals a hidden doorway -- with a skeleton sitting behind it.
The ladies can't continue renovations until the death is investigated, so they get involved learning about the history of the house. Which leads to investigating the family who lived there before them, and asking questions about the ghost that laughs quietly at inconvenient times.
