What's it about?

Max and Tony are best friends, writing partners -- but friends are pretty sure Max doesn't realize Tony is a boy, and Tony doesn't realize Max is a girl.

They're wrong, of course. Tony knows -- but he can't do anything about it, because he's in California and Max is in Ohio.

Until her parents are injured in a devastating accident. Then Tony rushes home to be there for Max. He promises she'll never be alone again. Max knows what she'd like that promise to mean, but they're both too busy running her parents' theater, working on their next book, and dealing with someone who's trying to steal her writing career and her identity to handle a suddenly more intense relationship.

What's involved?
Pack up a shoe box -- I prefer one of those shoebox-sized plastic storage boxes, because it's sturdier and the kids can use them for a long time afterward

Fill it with essentials, like toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, pencils and crayons and writing paper, erasers, balls, jacks, candy, hairclips, little toys, hats and mittens -- whatever can fit into the shoebox that a kid would need and enjoy

Drop it off at a collection center between November 15 and 22

What's really cool is the option now to get a report on where your box went.

Something I'm also considering this year is using the Gift Catalog put out by Samaritan's Purse to do something more useful and meaningful -- like buying mosquito netting for some children, or chicks so they can raise chickens and have eggs to feed them, or sponsoring other necessary items like a goat for milk, school supplies, school buildings, etc.

Okay, what's BEHIND THE SCENES about?
Well, you've read in a couple other Tabor Heights books about the horrid accident Emily and Joel Randolph were in, and how the university and church community came together to help them out.
You've met Joel and Emily and their daughter, Max, in other stories.
You've read about their community theater, Homespun Theater, and how Max is a writer and Joel teaches theater tech at the local university.

Well, this is THEIR story.

Joel has complained to friends in previous stories that he's pretty sure Max doesn't realize her best friend, Tony, is a boy -- and Tony doesn't realize that Max is a girl.

Little do the doubters know the truth ... and Tony and Max try to take their relationship to the next level, among the chaos of Joel and Emily's accident, Joel's estranged sister coming to live with them, a SHakespearean production missing its director and main character, Max's long-awaited film fellowship falling into jeopardy, someone trying to steal Max's identity and her writing career ... and her biological father coming into her life for the first time in a big, unexpected, and highly inconvenient way.
